How old is too old for a hot water service?
Most storage units are built to last around a decade, give or take a few years depending on the type and the water. An older unit doesn't need replacing on the spot, but it's worth knowing what condition it's in before it picks the coldest morning of the year to stop. We'll check it, and only quote a changeover if it actually needs one.
I live in an older block of flats. Who pays for a plumbing fault?
It depends on where the fault is. In most blocks the pipework inside your flat is yours. The main drain, the shared lines and often a shared hot water system are common property, which the owners corporation looks after. A leak can sit right on that boundary. We find where the fault actually is first, so the right party gets the bill, and we can report straight to the owners corporation or the managing agent.
