Plumber in Fairfield

Licensed plumbing, drainage and gas fitting across Fairfield, where the land falls to the Yarra and stormwater has to keep up.

Plumbing and gas fitting in Fairfield

Fairfield sits a short drive south of our Preston base, on the north bank of the Yarra between Northcote and Alphington. Our phone is answered 24 hours a day, so an emergency here is attended the same day in most cases.

The housing here is mostly period homes on heritage-protected streets, and the ground falls away south towards the river. That combination is why two jobs come up more than anything else in Fairfield. The first is stormwater: heavy rain arrives all at once, the fall moves it fast, and an old pit or a partly collapsed line backs it up into a driveway before anyone notices. The second is hot water, because the units in these homes went in decades ago and they pick the coldest morning of the year to stop. We clear the drainage first, then run a camera through it so you can see what caused it rather than take our word for it.

What we are called out for in Fairfield

  • Sewer and stormwater drainage — New drainage, repairs and replacement of failed sewer and stormwater lines.
  • Hot water systems — Repairs, replacements and same-day changeovers for gas, electric, heat pump and continuous flow.
  • Blocked drain clearing — Slow draining sinks, gurgling toilets and overflowing gullies. We clear the line and identify the cause.
  • Emergency plumbing — Burst pipes, loss of water and sewage overflows. Our phone is answered 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
  • CCTV drain inspections — A camera survey of your drainage line to identify cracks, tree roots, blockages and collapsed pipe.

What our customers say

Rated 5.0 out of 5 from 14 reviews on Google.

  • We had heaps of issues with blocked drainage at our old property in the Darebin area. We didn’t really know what was going on, nor did the guys before AC. Driveway flooding became a bit of an issue. When we called AC he arrived the same afternoon and sorted it quick fast! He’s got all the right gear and set up. Actually, I’m writing this 3 months since his visit and no dramas! I’ve referred him to a couple of friends and they’ve both got good feedback... Would definitely use them again!

FAQs

Frequently asked questions

Answers to the questions we are asked most often. If your question is not covered here, call us.

  • Why does my driveway flood in Fairfield when it rains hard?

Fairfield sits on ground that falls south towards the Yarra, so heavy rain reaches the low point of a property fast and all at once. Most homes here are period stock, and the stormwater lines and pits were sized for a smaller roof and far less paving than the same block carries today. When a line is partly collapsed, or a pit has filled with silt and roots, the water backs up at the lowest point it can find, which is usually a driveway. We clear the line first, then run a camera through it so you can see whether it was a blockage or a fault in the pipe.

  • Do you cover both sides of Fairfield?

Yes. Fairfield 3078 sits across two councils, with part of it in the City of Darebin and part in the City of Yarra. We work across the whole postcode, on both sides of Heidelberg Road, and in Alphington, Northcote and Thornbury next door. We are based in Preston, so it is a short drive either way.

  • My hot water unit came with the house. Should I replace it before it fails?

If it came with the house and the house is period stock, the unit is probably near or past the age it was designed for. You do not have to replace it on a guess. We can check what condition it is actually in and quote a changeover if it needs one. The quote is free, and no work starts until you have approved it.

  • How quickly can you get here?

Our phone is answered 24 hours a day, seven days a week. We are based in Preston and work across the northern suburbs, so response times are short. For emergencies we will give you a realistic arrival time on the phone, and advise you on isolating the water or gas in the meantime.

  • What does a call-out cost?

You receive a free quote before any work begins. We assess the job, explain what is involved and confirm the price with you. No work goes ahead until you have approved it.

  • Do you work after hours and on weekends?

Yes. We are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week for emergency plumbing and gas work.

  • Which suburbs do you cover?

Preston, Reservoir, Thornbury, Northcote, Fairfield, Ivanhoe, Heidelberg, Heidelberg West, Macleod, Greensborough, Bundoora, Mill Park, Epping, Lalor, Thomastown, Coburg, Brunswick, Fawkner, Glenroy and Pascoe Vale, along with the surrounding northern suburbs. If you are just outside this area, call us and ask.

  • Can you find a drain fault without digging?

In most cases, yes. We run a CCTV camera through the line and record the condition of the pipe, which identifies the fault and its depth from the surface. Any excavation is then limited to that one location.

  • Do you do gas fitting as well as plumbing?

Yes. We install and connect gas appliances, run new gas points, detect and repair leaks, and carry out carbon monoxide safety checks. Every gas installation is tested and certified on completion.
